How to Use Share Play to Let Friends Play Your PS5 Games
Gameplay videos record a few minutes of game footage and work the same way as any other video. This means you can record your games and then show off your awesome trick shot in Rocket League or your killstreak in Warzone.
So, now that you know what these two features are, how do you get content from your PS5 to your phone? Screenshots and videos of PS5 games in action can be sent to your mobile device. Using the Auto-Upload feature that Sony added to the PS5 and the mobile app that goes with it in 2023.
You can send screenshots from your PS5 to your phone. Easy steps can be taken to turn on the feature. What you have to do is: First, make sure your PS5 has the latest software update and that your smartphone or tablet has the latest version of the PlayStation app.
Head to Media Gallery from your PS5’s Home Screen.
If you can use this feature, you’ll see a pop-up on your Media Gallery right away asking if you want to turn on Auto-Upload. Mark Enable Auto Upload and click it. You can now use the feature through your console, but you’re not done yet.
Use your phone or tablet to go to the PlayStation App. If you can use the feature, a pop-up will let you know. Use the choice wheel at the bottom of the app screen to get to the Game Library.
Captures will be at the top. Tap it. Now, the same Enable Auto-Upload pop-up will appear on your phone’s screen. Make sure you want to automatically upload your content. 2 Images
This is the end of the setup process. From now on, any captures you make will be sent to your PlayStation app. Keep in mind that you only have 14 days to download your screenshots to your phone or share them from the PlayStation app. After that, they are gone. Only manual captures with the DualSense Capture button will auto-upload. Auto-captures and trophy captures won’t work either.
If you accidentally leave the Media Gallery before turning on auto-upload or don’t want to turn it on right away, you can turn it on later through your PS5’s system settings.
- Go to Settings from the home screen of your PS5 Game.
- Scroll down to Captures and Broadcasts and press X to choose that option.
- Select Auto Update and press X to turn on the feature.
- Your photos will now upload to the app on their own.
Once you’ve taken a picture or video you want to share, just open the PlayStation app and go to the Captures menu. Your capture will be ready to share. Just pick the image you want to share and click the Share button at the bottom of the screen (it is a curved arrow with a dot below it). Then you can share it with your PlayStation friends or tap Share via to send it with your favorite messaging app or upload it to social media.
What Happens If Auto-Upload Doesn’t Work?
As was already said, auto upload only works for pictures that were taken manually using the DualSense Capture button. So, what do you do if you want to share auto-captures, like when you get a platinum trophy? You can instead try these things.

- If you want to use PlayStation Parties to send your screenshots to your phone, you’ll need:
- A PS5
- A smartphone or tablet is a mobile device.
- The PlayStation app, which you can get on either Android or iOS,
- An internet connection on your PS5 and your mobile device.
Find the picture or video on your PS5 that you want to share.
Tap the Create button on your DualSense controller to quickly and easily find your PlayStation 5 Gallery and the screenshot you want to share.
This will bring up the Create menu, and your most recent screenshot should be at the bottom left of the Create pop-up. Tap the X key after putting the cursor on it. This will bring up the image menu, which includes the Share option. With the L1 and R1 trigger buttons, you can go through all of the media you have captured.
You can also choose Go to Media Gallery if you’d rather search in a grid instead of a carousel. This lets you see your screenshots and videos. Here is where you can find the video or screenshot you want to send to your phone.

Here, you can choose from a few things. You can either Send to Twitter, which is what we’ll do in the second workaround, or you can share the screenshot or video with your Parties (which is essentially the PS5 messaging service).
Either use the X button to choose an existing Party (a message thread between you and a friend or friends) or make a new Party. Once you’ve done either of these things, a message window with your screenshot and a message field will pop up. You don’t need to change the message field, so don’t bother. It’s the picture you want.
- Just hit Send, and your screenshot or video will be posted in the party chat.
Find the picture or video on your phone.
All you have to do now is go to the PlayStation App on your phone. On the app’s home screen, the Parties icon is in the top left corner. It looks like two words in a speech bubble. If you tap that, the Parties menu will open.
Here, you can choose which party chat you sent the screenshot or video to. Look, there’s the content you made, ready to be saved to your device!
Tap on the picture to open it. When the picture opens, there is a download button at the bottom right of the screen. If you tap that, the picture or video will be saved to your phone or tablet. You can now give it to whoever you want.

Screenshots and videos of games in action are shared on Twitter. Another workaround is to share your PS5 screenshots on Twitter. Some of the steps are the same as the ones above, and you’ll need the same tools, except for the PlayStation App. Make sure you have the Twitter app on your phone and that your Twitter account is linked to your PS5.
If you don’t already have a linked account, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Link With Other Services > Twitter to create one. If you want, you can also link to other social accounts here.

You can find your own content on your PS5 by following the same steps as above. When you get to the “Share” step, just choose “Send to Twitter.” If your Twitter account is connected, the Post Tweet window will appear.
Again, don’t worry about the autofill text that will show up. What you care about is the content you make. Just click Post and then press X to confirm. Your picture or video is now on Twitter.
- Find the picture or video on your phone.
Open the Twitter app on your phone or tablet. If you go to your Profile page, your most recent Tweet will be the content from your PS5. Just click on the image to open it, then click on the menu with three vertical dots at the top.
Then press Save, and your screenshot or video of you playing the game will be saved to your mobile device. You’ve finally shared your PS5 screenshots on Twitter. Note that you can also use this method to save PS5 footage to your laptop or desktop computer if you want to edit it into a bigger video. Just use the Twitter client for your computer instead.
